Complete Guide

Gameplay Basics

Objective

Iron Lung is an exploration horror game where you pilot a submarine through an ocean of blood on an alien moon. Your mission is to locate and photograph anomalies scattered across the ocean floor to complete your assignment.

The game features minimalist gameplay with dread-based horror mechanics. You'll navigate using coordinates and angles, relying on limited visibility and sound cues to find your way.

Controls & Navigation

Submarine Controls

  • Click the direction buttons on the control panel to navigate the submarine
  • Use physical buttons in the submarine for interactions (photograph, access C.O.I., etc.)
  • Press SPACE or the MAP button to view the map
  • Coordinates are expressed as (x, y) positions on the map
  • Angles are measured in degrees for precise navigation
  • Use the C.O.I. (computer terminal) in the back of the submarine to access data and lore

Important Notes

  • Be prepared for loud crashing sounds when colliding with walls
  • The order you discover locations doesn't matter for game completion
  • Locations are distributed across the map

Anomaly Hunting Guide

Finding Anomalies

Your main objective is to locate and photograph anomalies scattered across the ocean floor. These anomalies are marked on your map, but not all of them are real.

⚠️ Warning: Fake Anomalies

Some marked anomalies are fake—designed as jumpscares. These fake anomalies are marked with an X and will still show as completed after photographing them. Be prepared for startling moments!

Key Anomalies

  • Complete Skeleton (4th anomaly)
    Location: Approximately (560, 277) at 243 degrees
This skeleton belongs to a creature species similar to the hostile entity in the game.
  • Light Beam Anomaly (7th anomaly)
    Location: Approximately (182, 576) at 184 degrees
This relates to the SM-1 ship and involves radiation believed to warp time and space. After photographing it, you'll be teleported to a different location.
  • 9th Anomaly
Attempting to photograph this final anomaly completes the game.

Achievements Guide

Un-Hidden Achievements

Freedom

Read the piece of paper on the floor of the Iron Lung left by a previous convict discussing your chances of escape.

Spatial Awareness

Crash the Iron Lung into a wall. This produces a loud sound that may startle you.

Photograph the complete skeleton, typically the 4th anomaly found at approximately location (560, 277) at 243 degrees.

???

Photograph the light beam anomaly, normally the 7th anomaly at approximately (182, 576) at 184 degrees. This relates to the SM-1 ship and involves radiation that warps time and space.

Beyond the Veil

Complete the game by attempting to photograph the 9th anomaly. The order doesn't matter for game completion.

Hidden Achievements

Burner Subs

Enter SM-8 in the C.O.I. (the computer in the back of the submarine that contains lore and data).

Tips & Tricks

  • Always check the C.O.I. terminal for lore and important information about locations
  • Don't be discouraged by fake anomalies—they're part of the horror experience
  • Use coordinates and angles precisely to navigate to specific locations
  • Pay attention to sound cues—they can help you navigate and warn of dangers
  • The light beam anomaly will teleport you, so be prepared for unexpected location changes
  • Explore thoroughly—some achievements require accessing specific data in the C.O.I.
